Surah Al Humazah with English Translation

Surah Al Humazah is the 104th chapter of the Qur’an and consists of nine verses. The Surah delivers a strong warning to those who slander and backbite others, and who are obsessed with accumulating wealth. It criticizes the arrogance and false sense of security that comes from materialism, where people believe their wealth will grant them immortality or power.

The Surah describes the severe punishment awaiting such individuals in the Hereafter, where they will be cast into “Al Hutamah,” a metaphor for the crushing torment of Hellfire that burns not just the body but reaches into the hearts. This Surah emphasizes that material wealth is temporary and cannot save one from divine judgment. Instead, true success lies in righteousness and humility before Allah.

Surah Al Humazah English Translation:

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
Woe to every scorner and mocker
Who collects wealth and [continuously] counts it.
He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal.
No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher.
And what can make you know what is the Crusher?
It is the fire of Allah, [eternally] fueled,
Which mounts directed at the hearts.
Indeed, Hellfire will be closed down upon them
In extended columns.
